The Christmas Revels celebrates the end of the dark winter and the rebirth of the bright new year, the ritual of the winter solstice. This year’s Christmas Revels draws from the rich and varied traditions of America. Seasonal music from the Appalachian Mountains and African American traditions, Shaker tunes and Shape-Note singing from New England and Native American music and stories inform our winter theme. And, as in every Christmas Revels, there are carols and rounds for all to sing, a traditional mummers play, exciting morris dancing, and evocative poetry, echoing our past and rejoicing in the present.
